Halls of Heddon, established in 1921, was founded by William Nicholson Hall. Serving as a volunteer stretcher bearer in the First World War he was injured at Passendale and was advised to seek outdoor work rather than return to the Brewery job he held at Chester le Street. Being a keen gardener, he focused his attentions on starting a nursery and eventually found a suitable site in the old walled garden of Heddon House where the business still operates from today. Initially specialising in Delphiniums and Pansies, the range extended in the 30's to include Dahlias and Chrysanthemums. We're now regarded as one of the leading specialist suppliers of these late summer flowering plants, offering over 500 varieties and growing over 100,000 plants a year. Visiting the flower fields in September is a must!
The nursery at Heddon has now developed into a very well respected plant centre offering a wide range of quality garden plants for all purposes, many of which are grown at our Ovington Nursery.
