H.W.Hyde was founded in 1926 by Herbert William Hyde (pictured alongside), in the early years Herbert used to grow mainly vegetables and a few flowers, during the Second World War the land and most of the greenhouses was used to produce vegetable seeds for the War effort, just one greenhouse was kept for His passion (which was Orchids).

After the War His Son David joined the business and together they concentrated on growing mainly cut flowers, with Chrysanthemums and Gladioli being the main crops, Herbert used to display these at County show, until His death in 1965, after which David stopped showing and concentrated on the cut flower side of the business

The Nursery is currently run by David's three Children, Sarah, Richard and Elizabeth, gone are the Chrysanthemums and Gladioli, nowadays the Nursery specialises in Lilies. In 2005 the current owners decided to follow in their Grandfathers footsteps and start showing again, this they have done ever since.

Ignorance

1
Totally disgusting ignorant people. We messaged them to say we had received Asiatic Lillie's rather that the Oriental which we ordered. We didn't request a refund or replacement / just disappointment over the mistake ( and just as well ) , because the response was disgusting. Even after forwarding pictures (as requested by them) , we were made out to be liars because one of our older Oriental Lillie's was on the photo as well. You can't reason with ignorant people.

Updated review

I wasn't impressed with non delivery so gave them a bad review. But in fact it was the carrier company who were at fault. I have since received a new supply of plants which arrived promptly, packaged well and in good condition. So I am retracting my original review. Thank you Richard.

I am very pleased with the customer service. I received some amazing flower bulbs ( most of them are extra large), including some very unique varieties you won’t get anywhere else in the UK.

Inferior plants , and poor customer service

1
The mark of a good business is how they deal with issues when things go wrong .

I was supplied with some substandard alstroemeria plants late May this year , which have failed to grow . I was disappointed when I received them, and telephoned to let them know . I was told to be patient ..

Several emails and photographs later, I was told by Richard to dig them up and they would collect them . A refund would then be arranged .
We are now into September !

This was weeks ago now , and despite two further phone calls , I have basically been ignored!

Not only have they supplied inferior specimens , their customer service is non existent.

Im still waiting , and I’m not going away .. so why don’t you just accept your failure to supply a decent product and sort this out once and for all ?..
