Business Overview

Good Ales, Good Service, Good Fun

The Grove Tavern has been run by Steve Baxter since early 2003, now with a small, select team of staff that have many years experience in the industry.

It is reputedly the oldest and smallest pub set just off of the High Street in the 'village' area of the spa town of Tunbridge Wells, close to the Pantiles and Chalybeate Springs.

We pride ourselves on offering quality cask conditioned (real) ales alongside the usual range of lagers, cider, wines, premium label spirits and soft drinks. Whether looking for a permanent 'watering-hole' or just to pop-in for a quick refresher, you can be sure of a friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome by both the staff and regulars alike.

The landlord is also an I.T. Consultant so you can also join many of the others bringing in their computer problems for him to fix whilst they enjoy a light libation!

Very Rude Barmaid
This is technically our local but after going there 10 or so times we've decided not to return. The staff are very unwelcoming and actually quite rude. It's definitely a locals pub, usually my favourite type of pub, but apparently you have to be of a certain ilk (e.g. pissed middle aged man by the looks of it) to stand a chance of getting service with a smile.
On our last attempt, the barmaid literally completely ignored our attempts to order a drink by serving every local at the bar time and time again, not once looking our way. We were a family group of 5, ages ranging between 65 and 25 at around 8pm on a Thursday night, for absolutely no reason - not a pack of loud, drunken kids that you understandably don't want in your pub.
Just seems they are happy with what they have and don't care the slightest about opening up their PUBLIC HOUSE for anyone new. Shame. Won't be back, they've missed out on a good set of regulars there.

I am very sorry to hear that you feel you have had a bad experience in my pub, this is the very opposite of what we try to provide and are all about. We endeavour to treat new & existing customers exactly the same and any oversights in noticing customers waiting would definitely not have been intentional but rest assured, will be investigated. It can sometimes be tricky to spot everyone waiting when busy but my staff are constantly reminded to do exactly that. I take it though that on prior occasions you were happy with the service otherwise you would not have returned 10 or so times and so suggest that you do not let this one-off deter you from returning. If you would like to call in again & can catch the bar persons attention, please make yourself known & we will be sure to discuss this further with you. We are certainly not in the game of putting off new customers, as you suggest, but rather like to get them involved so that they too will very quickly become one of the locals!

Best Little Pub in Tunbridge Wells
Simply the best traditional little pub in the old village area of Tunbridge Wells. A haven for all drinks (inc. 3 real ales), pool, darts and friendly chat for locals & newcomers alike.

But then again I'm biased .... being the landlord!!!
