Gordon's Wine Bar is an institution in London's drinking circles with the speciality being fortified wines. Served from wooden casks behind the bar, this gives it a slightly eccentric feel. They also serve a variety of English dishes. Outside seating is provided on the terrace.

Always busy, dark, cramped and decorated with dusty old bottles and yellowing newspaper cuttings. It's a totally unique experience a world away from the ubiquitous Wetherspoons. I love it!
Didnt try any food - so cant really rate that.
Dont expect beer - Its a Wine bar. But as it is quite small, getting a drink from the crowded bar was a mission when I went.
I would have liked a greater selection of cheeses to nibble on with the port but could have stayed here all night! Highly recomend this place.
Only downside is how crowded it gets. Almost impossible to get a table unless you get there stupidly early and even standing can get uncomfortable at times.
Good central location. I love the outside area.
The inside area has lots of atmosphere.
Low ceilings and the semi-darkness make it a nice romantic place for a date.
I love the older guy at the cheese counter - he always changes my choice of cheese so that i try something new - and that he recommends. I appreciate that expert advice.
Gordons makes you feel that you might go home with a highwayman!- dusty champagne bottles dripping with red candle wax light up this fantastic and unique London cellar bar.
The only downside is that it get's so busy! It can be impossible to get in the door on a busy night, however, there's ample space outside to indulge in your tipple.
Ah, Gordon's, it's a London institution, and, dare I say it, you're not a proper Londoner if you haven't been there.
This is such at an atmospheric place with the added bonuses of good wine and food! As a previous reviewer said..No lager louts..superb! Close to the river for a romantic walk before or after visit...... it's perfect! The cellar is so cosy and subtle.... blokes ...if you want to impress...this is THE place to go without breaking the bank!!!! take me take me!
having said all that...I'd happily go with mates fro a lunch time drink/food as a break from the shopping...though would probably end up staying there for rest of day ( now there's another idea blokes! lol)
I just wish there were more of these places around!
Beyond that though, it's one of the few places that serve Port, Sherry and other fortified wines by both the glass and bottle and what's more doesn't break the bank. The wine list in general is so wide as to be a little bit intimidating but the bar staff and knowledgable and helpful when it comes to ordering.
If the hot and sometimes sweaty cellar is too much, it's also got a nice outdoors area overlooking the park by Embankment tube. Food is served too and looks good, but I've not actually sampled it myself.
This is the best and last great winery in London. There is a dark dank under pavement cellars that you practically have to crawl down. Fantastic, you can drink port by the pint! If you get there and stay sober long enough you may even line your stomach with some fantastic cheese and bread, which I can heartily recommend. Saved me more than once. Great quality cheeses and breads and classically simple.
I love this place.
It's a shame it's so rammed all the time, but that's the price of success I suppose, and somehow standing shoulder to shoulder with complete strangers whilst bent double under a strangely moist ceiling in semi-darkness is part of Gordons' unique charm. If you're heading here in the evening, pray for clement weather, when you can stand outside and maintain your own personal space to some degree.
Wine is severved in measures from as small as 12cl, the house red was smooth and delicious. They do serve food, however we did not indulge.
If it's summertime, the small outdoor area is a beautiful place to share some bottles of wine with friends. If you're looking for a cozier time, try to get one of the tables inside that seems to have been only recently dug out of the ground. (Very cave-like, and VERY low ceilings.)
As for the wine menu, it's fantastic. Lots of variety, and good value for money.
This is one of the more unique central London establishments I've been to, and heartily recommend it.
Very cosy, intimate and the darkness helps if you don't like your date!
Extremely delicious wines, even the house wines are great.
The food is ideal to help settle your stomach when you order bottle after bottle...
A must try if you haven't already :D
It's got a definite Dickensian feel and I wouldn't have been surprised to have seen Bill Sykes and Bullseye sitting moodily at the bar.
At 5'4" even I had to mind my head on the low ceilings so be a bit careful after a few glasses.
Gordon’s is quiet but noisy at the same time, light and yet dark with secluded corners, it has cobwebbed wine bottles and candle lights that all bring you in a very special frame of mind. It unfortunately can get crowded and getting a seat can be a challenge but the atmosphere is well worth it.
Their choice of wines is quite extensive from old world to new world. The food is alright not as exquisite as their wines. The staff is both friendly and knowledgeable compared to most other places.
All in all it’s a good place to have a drink with a few friends, talk literature, the weather, politics or anything you want. Can’t wait to go back there!
