George Hardie & Son (Joiners) Ltd are well known builders in Edinburgh and established their successful joinery and building services in 1882, over 125 years ago. The firm has been passed down through each generation to the present David, Graeme & Craig who work in the firm today.

We are able to offer an ALL TRADES SERVICES and are expert plasterers in Edinburgh but also include plumbing, heating, electrical work and decoration using registered sub-contractors.

We carry out small private building maintenance work such as joinery and plastering up to full alterations such as loft conversions, house extensions and renovations of properties. We always offer a high standard of workmanship and at a reasonable cost.

From generation to generation the ethos of this small, friendly family run business has not changed its approach as quality builders and joiners in and around Edinburgh.

Frustrating difficult to deal with.

Completely terrible, would NOT recommend. I Hired GH&S for a leak repair in 2017 in my bathroom. The work was originally planned to take 1 week, and after 6 weeks of being unable to reach anybody on the telephone except the receptionist and numerous missed call backs the work was finally completed to a very poor quality. Chipped and uneven floor tiles. Miss-matched Wall tiles, missing pipe collars, toilet basin unsecured to the floor and a cheep cistern which caused a bad water hammer throughout mine and my upstairs neighbors house. I didn't feel any sense of urgency whatsoever despite being without hot water or a flushing toilet for a month and a half.
Not good enough all round.

Bad Experience

I had a terrible experience, I wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Constant problems, spiralling costs, poor quality work, long unexplained delays for weeks, I wasn’t updated. It got to the point where every time I got an email from them I would burst into tears. And I had problems getting the key to my property back at the end. Very stressful!

Excellent quality of work and customer service

George Hardies recently completed various works on our property including a replacement bathroom, new hall flooring and external painting.
All the work was carried out to a high standard with a great deal of care and attention.
The customer service of the men carrying out the work was first class and I would not hesitate to recommend George Hardie.

Very happy with the work we had done

We had extensive works done on a new property by George Hardie & Sons - we found them a very pleasant company to work with and communicate with on all aspects of the job from start to finish. The job was scheduled to start on time and if there were any issues or delays arising in the job, we were kept updated throughout. The builders and joiners were always pleasant. We have had internal walls removed and a new stair fitted to create a new layout to our property, a new kitchen fitted and a new bathroom fitted by sub-contracters of the firm who we were also very pleased with. During this work we decided to update our doors within the property and Hardies fitted this into the job schedule as required. We would highly recommend this company.
