Experienced Geography Tutor

Hello, my name is James and I am a former Head of Geography with 8 years teaching experience. I have a real passion for learning and have refined my pedagogy in variety of different contexts so I can cater for any child's educational needs.

Beyond the classroom, I enjoy almost anything outdoors in particular skiing, hiking or just being on the water. I believe the greatest way to learn Geography is to experience it and I have had the privilege to travel a lot and witness a diverse range of people, cultures, religions, foods and environments. Using these experiences helps me bring Geography to life for students and I am happy to assist in more practical elements of the course such as the NEA. I am also on hand to advise and assist with university applications as a proud alumnus of The University of St Andrews and University College London (UCL).

I have 8 years teaching experience in a variety of different contexts

- 4 years as Head of Geography and Gifted and Talented Coordinator at a British school in Dubai, UAE.

- 2 years as a Geography teacher at an all-girls grammar school in London (the top state school in the UK in The Times rankings).

- 2 years as a Humanities teacher in an inner-city, non-denominational London academy.

I have experience teaching all Key Stages with particular success with GCSE and A-Level classes. I can facilitate learning for any student, regardless of their educational needs, from those deemed gifted and talented to those with learning difficulties. I always tailor my lessons to suit the needs of the students in front of me.

Regarding students that are currently in an examination year (GCSE/A-Level), I have most experience with AQA but have taught Edexcel and OCR in the past and can create bespoke lessons that meet the curriculum requirements of your child. I have particular expertise with the Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) element and can help with all stages of this independent enquiry.
