Warm and helpful

Love this shop, great bargains to be had and good quality furniture to be found. The staff are always helpful and courteous. We have bought many serviceable vintage items here from desks and tables to woollen blankets and curtains. It’s also a great way to support a good charity.

discrimination against disabled people

1
If you're disabled, you could be refused entry. That was my experience this morning, when I was told I couldn't be in the store without a mask. I had explained that I cannot reach my ears on account of severe rheumatoid arthritis. It's normal to allow those who cannot for medical reasons wear a mask not to do so - that's been my experience in two hospitals, a GP's surgery, a podiatry clinic, two cinemas, various restaurants and pubs, my place of work, the local Co-op, and other shops. In fact everywhere except Emmaus, this much-loved "charity". 'You have to wear a mask' said the tall guy with the long hair. 'You aren't wearing one,' I replied. He pointed to a Perspex screen a few feet away which was in no way shielding us from one another. 'You have to have an exemption,' mumbled the woman near him. Did she mean some piece of paper? Obtainable from...? God knows. A third member of staff - more staff than customers in that shop - came over to back them up. BOYCOTT the store.

Fine Place, normal folks

4
First and foremost remember you are coming into a CHARITY shop that has helped folk get back on their feet after tough times. This is not some highly paid job. So the furniture is donated after years of use and in some cases similar situation for the staff. If you aren't thrilled by how you are treated by normal folks, then don't come here. This isn't John Lewis or other name brands. This is real people and how they are in life. I've never had a problem and been shopping here for a while. I enjoy the folks who work there and they've all been helpful when asked. And I"ll be back again.
