Business overview

Emmaus Bolton - Working to Live and Give

Emmaus Bolton is a registered charity concerned with homelessness and recycling. We offer a place to live to people who have been homeless and are willing to help in the recycling business we run from the Community at Derby Barracks in Bolton. Our recycling business allows us to be financially self sufficient.

We collect unwanted items - furniture, sofas, suites, white goods, electrical items, clothes, books, CD's etc. These are then sold at our derby Barracks store - any items that we cannot sell are recycled and not sent to landfill.

We also operate a social furniture scheme for families in need.

No Manners

I contacted this organisation after I saw their details listed across multiple websites specifically to donate a king size mattress in good condition, which all the links say they do. I sent an email and received a response back from Tony, who advised they don't take mattresses.

I was mindful that the multiple websites indicated that they did which must be annoying for them if they do not so I replied and made them aware of this. Not even the decency to acknowledge or thank me for letting him know or even ask which websites. just because you work for a charity doesn't excuse poor manners.

Disorganised and Timewasters

Tried to organise a COLLECTION online (please note the word COLLECTION)
Heard nothing and had to ring.

When these people are arriving they ring when nearby to tell you they are coming to LOOK, at your items.
In a nutshell this supposed COLLECTION means that they come to pick and choose what items they want

The very first item i had ready to load was a vintage 1930s bed, after already mentioning this item when arranging collection, i was then told at the door they didnt want it!
I promptly sent them away empty handed for wasting my time, and they claim that they are desperate for items for there cause.

Well worth a visit

There is a treasure-house of goods here - s/h furniture, every household item you can think of, bric-a-brac, books, toys - whatever comes in through their doors every day. Prices are excellent and the fellows are most helpful. I have bought all sorts of bargains here - and it helps a worthy cause. Always first port of call if I need something.
