Business overview

Discover the Elephant & Castle

The Elephant and Castle fulfils an ambition to serve a fabulous choice of amazing home cooked meals in our home village.

The Pub dates back to the 17th century when it was a coaching Inn. Over the years it has had many alterations and refurbishments. In our latest refurbishment, just a few months ago, we left the actual layout the same but we now have a well established bar area as well as a well equipped dining area.

The heavy furniture sits on extremely lush carpeting giving the pub a very plush and up market feel to it.

Reviews

Nice food, poor value so only a “very good” because of the all round quality !

Called after going to Elesacar visitor centre. All booked up but they managed to squeeze us four between bookings. Nice interior but not enough standing room around the bar for the amount of customers waiting to dine. The food was good, hot and plentiful. The two having the chicken roast though the meat was dry. The beef was fine but they had run out of pork. Puddings were nice. £18 each for a two course roast was a little steep. £3 off this would have got them 5 stars ! When we ask for a jug of iced water we expect a jug with ice and lemons in at these prices, not a luke warm glass with a slice of lemon. Service saved the day however with excellent toilet standards. Thought “Sky Sports” was a little “Wetherspoony” ! My daughter had been previously and described it as a “gastro pub” ! Hoylanders would call it “dear” !

disappointed

The Prices Were Unreal For What You Got! We waited half an hour for what I would call "standard steak and chips" costing £21 each. The portion size did not at all match the price, and the quality of the food was far from what you would expect to receive! Also, £7 for a small child's meal is way overpriced! Don't think we shall be visiting there again in a hurry

I love coming here to eat and my networking friends love coming here too. We have held three events here and each one we have all enjoyed the wholesome and tasty home cooked food. I've had Sunday lunch here too and they did the BEST Yorkshire puddings and roast beef I have EVER had!!
