I’m a serving fire office and my expertise is with driver training and standards. I offer driving training all levels from learner to advance in all classes of vehicles.

Expert Driver Trainer (EDT) driving school has been established by myself, Richard Smith.

I’m a retired Fire Service Officer, with over 28 years’ experience in driving and instructing on all categories of vehicles.

For 15 years I have been responsible for managing driver training standards for airside and public road driving, adhering to road traffic legislation (road safety act 2006) and health and safety guidance (health and safety at work act 1974, PUWER 1998, Driving at work guidance).

I have been involved with the development and running of Blue light response training and standards for all emergency services.

My company, EDT, offer driver training for all levels, from new drivers to advanced driver training.

We also offer various flexible training courses to suit individual and company needs, such as fleet training on company vehicles and individual drivers who require specific development to improve confidence and skill sets.

Emergency Response Driver Training

Had two weeks with Richard, completing emergency response driver training. His expertise in the subject was impressive and very helpful.

Throughout the course under his tuition I was able to develop existing skills and improve my driving not just in response, but also roadcraft for day to day motoring.

He was professional and direct with feedback, encouraging peer review and self analysis.

I would highly recommend Richard to my colleagues and other services/agencies seeking a driver trainer.

Emergency Response Driving Instructors Course was thorough and safe and appropriate

Really good level of instruction. I am already an instructor but I needed reassessing by way of carrying out this course. I learnt loads through good experiences on public roads and on the airfield. Rich even helped with my training recording systems and was able to work along side me to improve them.
