Business overview

Your Property is Our Passion

I have been plastering now for since 2004. We do all internal plastering, i.e. solid plastering, dot and dab, stud walling etc. We also do traditional lime plastering and insulating lime plastering using a technique developed by Tim Wells of Eden Lime Mortor. Other uses of lime based materials include lime pointing and rendering.

Along with plastering we also do house renovations from the ground up and including landscaping the garden.

We are fully insured and pride ourselves in "turning up on time" and leaving your property clean and tidy once we have finished. We also provide free estimates and advice.

Excellent lime work

In September 2021 Ed essentially rebuilt our lime pointed garden wall which had all but collapsed. He meticulously managed to repoint around bricks that were all essentially loose in situ without taking the whole wall down (it is a listed property so we wanted to avoid that). He did an astonishingly amazing job making the wall safe and strong again. Ed was reliable, efficient, tidy and gave us lots of helpful advice and very reasonably priced. Two years on it still looks amazing.

Very Happy customer !

We had small job needed doing plastering round the inside window of barn conversion. Ed attended to give quote (same day we rang about 30 mins after our call! ) we agreed a date which Ed attended bang on time and did great job, tidied up nicely and very good price. We couldn't have asked for more and would certainly recommend.

The customer in the above review (Buchanan) asked me to quote for some experimental rendering. I duly quoted but he wanted to save money by taking the old render off himself and arranging the scaffolding.
He wanted me to start applying the new render before the all the old was off even on one wall. This you cant do i.e. not practical. He got upset by this claiming he hadnt wanted to do the work himself in the first place. I had done nothing but supply him with free advice along with my supplier, and lent him my equipment to help him remove the old render. No money had changed hands and no contracts were signed therefore I was under no obligation to do the work. I had been waiting for him since the winter to take the old render off and was not prepared to waste my time waiting any further. Ed Birkett

Left in the lurch

My job involved building work and re-rendering the walls of my house.

When Ed Birkett turned up last November I was quoted for the work and believed it would start in the Spring.

To save some of the cost we agreed that I would remove as much of the old render as I could. I was pleased by this because I do not have a lot of money.

In Spring he told me that he could not start before the last two weeks in June. Later, he turned up at my house and said that it would not harm if the rendering was not done until next year...this made me very worried, but I continued as best I could. I was also simultaneously dealing with dry rot and internal damp in most rooms of my house.

By mid June I had removed all of the render that I could without scaffold. I asked him for a start date.

I was astonished when he said that he could not start for a couple of months because he had other work on.

At this point I asked why I did not have priority since he had taken my job on last year and told me that he could start in June.

He then told me that it was my fault that I had been so slow to remove the render! I was appalled. I am a single parent and am not in the best of health. I had worked as hard as I could and felt deeply insulted and depressed by his accusations.

When I said that I did not like his attitude about this, he told me to get somebody else and walked away from the job.

I am now left with half the render off my walls and I still have a leaking chimney stack. I am finding it almost impossible to get other builders now.

I suppose my 9 year old daughter and I face yet another winter in a cold, damp house. I have no idea why he pulled out of the job like this.

I am gutted.
