Downside Nurseries - a family nursery with a wide range of unusual, interesting, quality plants not easily found elsewhere. "The Gardener's Nursery".

Downside Nurseries is a traditional family-run retail, working nursery set in over three acres situated in Upper Westwood, between Bradford on Avon, in West Wiltshire and Iford and Freshford near Bath. We supply• private gardeners, landscape gardeners and architects in Bath, Wiltshire and surrounding counties with an unrivalled choice of quality plants stock much of which is grown on site.

The Young family have been running Downside Nurseries for 50 years and have earned an enviable reputation for being “The Gardener’s Nursery".

Our aim is to supply you with a choice of the finest quality plants from more than 2500 varieties of herbaceous perennials, trees and shrubs that will thrive in your garden. We offer a larger range of plants and trees (specimen sizes) than you’d generally find at garden centres.

What a pleasant surprise a nursery with a extensive range of healthy plants at a very competitive price. Places like this are very rarely found today as more and more garden centres ditch the plants for more and more tat. Christmas is coming in most garden centres but not at Downside nursery thank goodness.

We visited by chance an excellent nursery, Downside Nurseries in Upper Westwood BA15 2DE near Bradford-on-Avon, open every day. It was clear from the moment when we entered that the stock was of excellent quality and the love and care given to each item stood out a mile. These people really know what they’re talking about. We have no intention of buying anything when we arrived but…. You know the way it is.

The Best Nursery In Wiltshire

I have been a professional gardener and garden designer for 20 years and have always used Downside. The plants are wonderful, always in tip top condition with an ever changing range, that keeps up with fashions, you can also always find the old favourites we turn to time after time. Lorraine is amazing, her knowledge is encyclopedic and she is always happy to put our a search to her vast range of contacts for a specific plant if she doesn't stock it.

Downside is always worth a visit.

I discovered Downside by accident and now make a deliberate detour and call in every time I travel from Wiltshire to Cardiff. There is always a good variety and frequently an unexpected find of a more mature plant. Downside also have a really nice line of pots and containers that I've not seen elsewhere.

What a great Nursery, excellent plants at good prices. My only complaint is it so good that I spent far too much money.....
Will definitely be back for more quality plants.
