Business overview

Derwent Harp School offers harp lessons from Beginner to post Diploma level.

Former students have gone on to study at Purcell and Menuhin Schools, all the major conservatoires and Oxford and Cambridge universities .

Students have the chance to become members of the Derbyshire Harp Ensemble and compete and tour nationally and internationally as well as putting on local charity events.

Year 6 and under students have Junior Harps on a Friday after school and senior ladies have their own ensemble on Tuesday lunch times.

Starting the harp with us is very inexpensive with our Adventurer 20 Harps which we make here on site being offered to students at preferential rates.

Our tutor holds BA Hons (Wales) CTABRSM and DipABRSM qualification and has been teaching

for over 15 years.

Preparation for scholarship examinations is a speciality and many of our students are music

scholars in the local private schools.

A dishonest company

I have ordered a harp one year ago and I still have not received it. I have sent several mails and even made a phone call, but Derwent Harp was not polite enough to answer any of them. I have sent a message via facebook messenger yesterday. Again, no answer. What sort of customer service is this ? Certainly not an honest one.

Be Aware of T&Cs!

Wedding booking cancelled due to Covid, happy to rearrange to a new date but when numbers became tight due to Covid and we explained this to Derwent we weren’t able to obtain a refund, at all. Disappointing as other suppliers have been more than accommodating with this during these unprecedented times. Gutted to not have the Harp at all but more gutted with the customer service from Derwent Harp School to be honest.

High quality harps for a very good price, friendly and nice communication

I bought 7 harps plus accessories now from the company. The harps are very good in sound and quality, string tension is even and astonishingly high for the small Adventurer 20 and Discovery 16 harps. I am very happy with the instruments, using them for teaching and they even inspired me for composing my „Pieces for Small Harp“. I enjoy to play them myself, using them as leightweight but beautiful sounding travel-harp. Service and communication with the company is very good and friendly. I am, as a professional musician and harp teacher, very satisfied with all orders.

Incredibly bad customer service

I ordered a harp 11 weeks ago. Website said would take 4 weeks and they were not affected by the Covid pandemic and were business as usual. Its been 11 weeks of poor communication and excuses. It was supposed to be sent today but instead of waiting for DHL they went to Wales so no one was there when DHL came to get it. When I expressed my unhappiness, instead of apologising they complained that a house they were supposed to be buying had fallen through as if that excused it. I haven't cancelled the order because I don't want to cause problems for a small business but I cannot rate this business low enough. If you are thinking of using them, please reconsider. Its a very unprofessional business who do not seem to care about providing the customer a good service.

Good, experienced and knowledgeable teacher.

The tuition was very professional, and there are other occasional events such as master classes with well-known harpists. The teacher is well versed in teaching methods. I plan to use Derwent Harp School again when I am better organised and have more time to practice.
