Are you planning to undertake works which fall within the Party Wall Act? Such works could typically be a Loft Conversion (inserting beams into the party wall), or a ground floor extension near another property/structure (excavations within 3m at a lower level than a neighbours’ foundations), or the removal of a chimney breast on a shared wall, to name a few examples. If your works are notifiable, you must serve a statutory notification (termed ‘Notice’) on all the adjoining owners as defined by the Act.

If you have received a ‘Notice’ of proposed works served under the Party Wall ect. Act 1996, you have the options to allow the works to commence without party wall surveyor(s) or to appoint a surveyor either jointly with your neighbour or separately. In normal cases if your neighbour is undertaking the works for his/her benefit then surveyor(s) fees would be paid by them.

We are happy to advise if you are planning that works that you feel may fall within the scope of the Party Wall ect. Act 1996, or if you have received a Notice and wish to appoint a surveyor or simply require a further explanation of the Act.
