Fantastic dedicated staff who always make sure the dogs' needs come first.

A great adoption experience from start to finish. We adopted our terrier seven weeks ago. The staff were wonderful just as they were nine years ago when we adopted from there. They ensure that dogs go to the right homes and, as a result, you quite rightly have to go through a thorough vetting process. Digby has settled in so well and is a very happy dog! A big thank you to all the staff, especially Rob and Becky- you do a wonderful job.

Very distressing for dogs & visitors

2
Visited 07/07/18. Staff did not seem overly keen on interaction. I personally feel that having people walk around the kennels is extremely disturbing for the animals. It's bad enough that they are in this environment but allowing visitors to walk around like it's a shopping centre makes them even more upset. Personally I feel is quite cruel. My advice would be to stop people going into the kennels, advertise the dogs stories & pictures online & arrange a visit to meet. I visited Newport Dogs Home & couldn't believe the difference. The kennels were quiet & dogs seemed much more at ease, their staff wanted to get to know you & more concerned with the dogs welfare. There may well have been a lovely dog at Cardiff but I couldn't cope with the environment as all the dogs were so distressed. Surely they can adopt the same method as Newport & I'm sure it would be far more beneficial for the dogs welfare.

Never go back

Visited here today with my mum partner and son. Was shocked how unwelcoming the staff are . Lots of people behind the counter talking and your just stood at the window .a male member of staff eventually let us threw no one was interested in what we were looking for you don't know what dogs are reserved ?? If you ask a question the answer is don't know ? Or they too busy . Although this is run by the council people must remember apart from volunteers there are paid staff managers who are doing an awful job of runing this place . No smiles no concern we was offered a form to fill in that was it backs turned on us . I can see how why so many people won't go there it is not the dogs it is the staff

Never reply to e mails. Staff are unwelcone and cnt be botherd just thrown a pen and application form.no compassion for people visiting so unhelpful i actually feel like I'm a burden . They obviously cnt cope .volunteers are lovely thou . Its held against you if u dnt hsve a vet ? No other dogs home does that plus a french bulldog was returned last week by a couple who provided a vet refernce and already had a dog so some poor person who didn't have a vet missed out because of someone who did ans wasn't suitable ?? Cnt wait for dogs trust to open up in cardiff where staff are friendly and care and everyone given a chance to adopt we are off to buy a dog this week cnt wait it's a shame thou because one more left in kennels because of their daft procedure

adopted our Bessey

Thought this centre had closed, adopted our lovely Bessey from there, quite some years ago, her names was Beth when we adopted her, a cross between a Doberman and a Whippet, she has been through a lot, you could tell, but all staff were wonderful with her, she had been there since the February and we adopted her in the November, she was difficult to rehome.
She was approximately 18 months when we had her she passed away after developing dementia at the age of 17 and a half, never to be forgotten.
