Nice location...

Browns is located in 1 of Edinburghs most popular spots in George St Edinburgh but that is the only class thing about this joint. food was far to long in getting brought out and staff where all over the place and dont expect to get change from a £10 for some drinks!

Breakfast Bah. :-(

Advice for anyone wishing to try out Sunday morning breakfast at Browns - avoid. We got there on the stroke of 10am for opening and were seated right away, yet had to wait 15 mins before our tea and coffee arrived, and a further 20 mins for the food. The place was not packed but the staff still looked run off their feet.
As for the food, it was hugely disappointing. Having been lured there because one of our company had had a lovely Tuesday breakfast, we expected the same level of care. It was not to be. A big part of Sunday breakfasts is your egg. We had Florentine and Benedict which arrived on plates that were too cold and which were served with congealing Hollandaise sauce. The eggs had been poached without mercy and were very overcooked. The traditional breakfast had burnt toasted baguette, again stone cold.
The waiters didn't ask if everything was all right, probably because they had an idea it was not. The chap who brought the bill abstracted the credit card and machine from our presence when dealing with our payment, which is not something he is supposed to do.
All told, a highly disappointing morning. The only consolation is that the babies that were brought in were not screaming, but would have been drowned out by the sound of the Lounge Jazz playing through the speakers anyway.

Good Food

I went here with my work for a 'work night out' a few years ago. The food was really good, probably one of the best meals I have ever had. There is a good selection on the menu with something for everyone. The drinks here are very good also, nice cocktails. It is quite expensive to eat here, and the drinks can be quite expensive too depending on what you buy. The biggest problem for me is that you can't book, you just have to go along and hope for the best, they have you sit in the bar while you wait for a seat. Guess it's a good way of making them more money but a bit annoying if you were looking for a special night out.

Not again

Now what Browns do better that most is serve drinks their cocktails, wine & beers are all worth a visit, however I now have to mention the food. I'm sure it will not come as a surprise to anyone that you can go in to any Browns in the country and find the same menu on the same day, this is simply because all the food is bought in and heated up. I prefer a more traditional meal where its cooked to order & where minor imperfections are evidence of a freshly just cooked meal.

I ate the warm spicy chicken salad and although it was OK it could easily have been served in any other mass chain restaurant.

Consistently Good

Browns has been long established on George Street and has been consistently good. Great food, great cocktails and wine. Comfortable seating with a great atmosphere. I don't think I have ever had a bad meal here (well OK once I did). If you are looking for somewhere where you know you will enjoy your meal then Browns is definitely somewhere you should go.
