Boswells Cafe

I am sorry but I would like to comment about the manageress at Boswells in the Cowley Centre Oxford, I don’t know her name but she was working as manageress on Sat 26/10/2019, she was working behind the counter when a male member of staff came out of the back into the cafe to clean the tables, she immediately started verbally abusing him in front of the customers telling him that he should have been there at 10am to which he replied that if she asked another member of staff it would be verified by this member, she would not listen and continued shouting at him from behind the counter bearing in mind that he was on the table side of the cafe with the customers who were clearly embarrassed, the point being that if the manageress needed to talk ( or shout at him in this case ) she should have taken him aside somewhere private and had a word, she is very vocal anyway but it isn’t needed and as a customer I felt really embarrassed for the young man.

I visited the other day with my friend and 6 children between us. After we bought some children’s menu, I tried to go back and buy an apple and a bag of crisps. There were about 3-4 customers buying full breakfasts which were made fresh and it took a long time. As the children were a bit fretful sitting at the table, I asked if I could jump the queue and pay for the items. I was told I had to wait. So I went back to the table empty handed. We kept on eating. Our toddlers were going to other tables, coming back, climbing some stairs but generally behaving all right. Then an elderly lady came to my friend saying she was a bad mother letting the children run around. Then staff came to us telling that children should not run because of risk of scalding. I admit that is a real danger and maybe our children are a bit wild but I have been to cafes with my children for 6 years and I've never been told off. So I decided not to go to this place with small children any more.
