Business overview

Burrows & Close are your local caring pharmacy.

Burrows and Close was launched in 1973 when Richard Close and fellow pharmacist Graham Burrows opened their first shop in Eastwood, Nottingham. This formed the Head Office, Warehouse and Retail outlet, all under the one roof. Soon after, in 1975, the first branch pharmacy was opened on Lenton Boulevard .This was the start of the steady expansion of the business which now consists of 16 retail pharmacies that are located predominantly around the Nottingham area, but also at Mickleover and Grantham. As a result of this planned expansion the Company moved its Head Office to Charles Way, Bulwell, Nottingham, which also incorporates a central warehouse. The Company attributes its success by concentrating on being local and by offering a personal quality service. It is proud of its very loyal and dedicated workforce. The Company now employs over 140 staff, a good number of whom have been with the Company for many years.

Boots and Ethical Pricing

2
In early November 2017 I called into the Kimberley Branch with a private prescription for a skin ointment and asked the pharmacist for a price. A member of staff contacted Boots own wholesaler and notified me the price was £666.00 for a tub.
When I had stopped laughing, I advised the pharmacist that the price was ridiculous, but rather than giving me any useful advice he weakly attempted to justify the exorbitant charge. Manor Pharmacy, 25 yards away, supplied my exact needs for £12.10.
Clearly, the individual concerned is either very inexperienced or unsuitable for what should be an ethical and caring role.
My complaint to Boots Head Office , did not initially bring any response, however, my follow up email did generated a bland and somewhat inane reply, which to me indicates that Boots condones such disgraceful profiteering and does not intend to take any action.
Mr Boot must be spinning in his grave !!!
