Black Horse

It may be ok as a pub/eating place I don’t know, but it’s no good as a music venue. Most people have no interest in hearing the music and to be honest the female owner doesn’t care. We were made to feel totally uncomfortable and won’t be back. If you like live music go to a pub that is set up for it, this is not it !!!!!

First thing to say about the Black Horse is the décor. Whilst first entering it seems like a cosy country pub, it is however more akin to a Museum. With various ancient artefacts in every spare inch of space, it is certainly a talking point.

When our table of nine was seated, we were given the various Menu options, such as A la carte, two person meal deal, Peasant menu and specials board. The very pleasant waitress was only too happy to let us mix and match.

Our various starters arrived after a short wait and they all looked very appetising. From the Cheese and Onion soup (which id never seen before) to the Thai fishcakes, it was all delicious.
After explaining to our youngest member that the Menus were actually printed on double LP covers, our mains arrived. The various steaks in different sauces were most popular in our group and they looked wonderful, with the largest onion rings ive ever seen. I opted for the venison meatballs, which were slightly disappointing. There was only one large meatball with some mashed potato and onion gravy. It all seemed slightly un-seasoned,and was crying out for some texture, such as parsnip crisps or even the aforementioned onion rings.

Whilst the desserts sounded delicious, such as Cinder toffee Eton mess, only a few of us partook and again the comments were very positive.

A busy restaurant is normally a sign of a good restaurant, and the Black Horse was buzzing, we’ll be back.
