Business overview

Selected by Scotland the best as one of top five European restaurant in Glasgow. Winner for the third year running of the UK.

Battlefield Rest built in 1915, a local land mark, it was a tram station and newsagent, and was once described "as the most exotic tram shelter in Scotland". Decorated with gleaming green and cream tiles, the "Rest" had a kiosk at the end under the octagonal clock tower. It became a B-listed building in 1981. In late 1990 a demolition order was impose by Glasgow District Council Building Control because of the unsafe and partly damage structure of the building. After a petition was signed, with signatures from over 1500 people, it was saved from destruction. It was sold to a private business man Marco Giannasi who in early 1993 started a restoration project to bring the building back to its original state. In 1994 it was transformed into a restaurant and now today it happily survives intact for every one to enjoy.

this also makes a great venue for a first date as there is so much going on that I think it would keep any awkward silences at bay. It’s quality food cooked according to classic recipes

This is the cutest most cosy wee restaurant in the South Side. The food never disappoints and the staff are always, friendly, accomodating and good fun.

Good place to visit around Christmas time as the menu stays good quality and doesn't deteriorate

First time I ate at this restaurant was on it's opening night. A good number of years has passed since then and I have been fortunate to enjoy a good number of equally memorable meals there. My work had received an invite and I was the very lucky individual chosen to represent my work. The food is sublime. Have to admit was never a great Italian food fan before eating here, this place sets a very high standard and changed my opinion completely of Italian food. One draw back is lack of parking, it is slap bang next to the Victoria Infirmary. It is situated on an island surrounded by double yellow lines. Although the bus stops are very handy - just outside the door! Battlefield Rest was originally a rest stop for the bus drivers. Only piece of advice I can give come and give it a try, you will not be disappointed. Dress nicely for the occassion and come by bus - no's 44, 5, and 66.
