Checking cameras for a refund

Yesterday I was embarassed by the treatment I received from staff when I asked for a refund or exchange of a small item at 12 pounds in value, a supervisor went to check if I knew it was faulty upon purchase but then as gesture of goodwill rather than statutory consumer rights as per company policy and consumer protection I finally received a refund after they checked CCTV at point of purchase. Disgraceful and embarassing treat ment of customers.
