I attempted to rent a car from Avis for 24 hrs. I reserved the car in advance to pick up from Doncaster Robin Hood airport on 5/4/18. I was quoted a rate of £50 over the phone. On arrival at Doncaster airport I was informed that the car I had reserved was unavailable and that they could only offer a smaller car and the cost including insurance and breakdown cover would actually be £100. Twice as much as quoted over the telephone. The customer service agent, Ashleigh, offered no solution. It was a case of take the smaller car at double the cost or take a smaller car without the insurance and breakdown cover at the cost of £50. we were due to pick up a disabled passenger and the smaller car was unsuitable. I also objected to the cost being double that quoted over the telephone. I asked Ashleigh whether i could cancel without cost and she replied 'Yes'. I have now been charged a £40 no show cost. Customer services are unwilling to help.
