Andalucia is a modern tapas restaurant. Dishes include croquetas de pescado (fish croquettes), gambas al ajillo (King prawns in a garlic, chilli and wine sauce), and albondigas (meatballs in a red wine and tomato sauce). Recommended mains included paella Valenciana, and the duck breast marinated with orange peel, juicy onions and potatoes.
Waitress spat at me – avoid at all costs1
Went with workmates as we were due to attend a play next door. We arrived for our booking a 6pm thinking we had plenty of time to make the 7.30pm show. We were wrong. It took a significant amount of time for our order to be taken. It was about 30 mins before we even got our drinks and over an hour later we still had not all been served our main meal. One of my colleagues had to make do with only his starter for dinner. We flagged to the waitresses who “served” us several times that we needed to leave before our show started at 7.30pm but they didn’t seem that bothered and continued to take their time bringing our orders – which arrived ad hoc – meaning that some people had finished eating their main whilst others still waited for theirs.
Everyone, bar me, ordered the three course set menu but, due to the time taken, we were unable to wait for dessert.
We wanted to dispute the bill, due to the bad service, but decided as we had literally five minutes before our show started to just pay the bill. When we asked to pay by card we were told that the card machine was not working and told to get cash from a cash machine a 10 min walk away. This we might have been able to do if we didn’t have a show to go to. We scrapped what little cash we had, half of the bill, and said we would come back after the show to pay.
When we got outside we decided that we would not pay the remainder due to the fact we had not received all our food – but still been charged for the full set menu.
When we came out of the show the supervisor was waiting for us and demanded that we pay our bill. One of my colleagues explained that we would not and we began to make our way to the train station – as we did this the waitress spat at us, some of this spit landed on me!
Never in my life have I encountered such disgusting behaviour and certainly not in someone who works in the service industry. I made a complaint to the police who have made a record of this and will also be taking further action elsewhere. I would never go again to this restaurant – the food was sub-standard, the service ridiculously slow and the staff member who spat at us is repulsive.
For dessert the home made creme caramel was fresh (unusual in London) and better than the crepe with chocolate sauce.
We had to ask for bread on arrival and later for the dessert menu - whatever other wonders they have I don't know as we didn't think to ask. All in all pretty good and we would go again to sample the tapas or paella.
Tapas on tap5
I've had just about every veggie option on the menu and have never been let down. Pretty cheap night out of you take a few friends... just go easy on the sangria.
