Business overview

I teach all ages (16+), from beginners to advanced pros, on most conventional instruments and voice within commercial music genres, specialzing in jazz.

Hello there! --- I’ve been teaching music since January 2000 to all ages (16+) of pianists, singers and players of most other common instruments, at all levels up to advanced pro. I teach within most commercial music genres, yet specialise in jazz, in practising routines that develop universal practical skills, in improvising and composing, and in a unique approach for singers that builds stand-alone confidence. While this can (but doesn’t have to) include vocal improvising ('scat' singing) and 'vocalese', the approach is based on classic routines for developing vocal (and general) musicianship. For any student, the 'curriculum' is tailored in discussion with them to meet the interests and needs that they express.

.

I’m DBS certified, have an honours degree in music education and additional related training, and also teach in schools and further education, including those working towards music related qualifications. My website, --- www.londonmusictuition.co.uk --- (best viewed from a large screen device), gives further details, including many unedited references from a wide variety of my students, and descriptions of my background and teaching 'philosophies' and approach.

.

I perform as a jazz pianist and studied myself with one of jazz’s most revered figures, the US tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh, a peer and associate of the innovative (and blind) jazz pianist, composer and renowned teacher Lennie Tristano, and their historic contemporary Charlie Parker. Composition was a notable feature and practice of their (and others') musicianship and I also happily support any student's interest in that skill.

.

For private lessons, I teach at home, which is about a 5-minute walk from the Central Line's Leytonstone station - or if you prefer to drive, parking is free on my street. In any case, I’d be happy to speak with you about lessons, to hear of your musical goals and interests, and to answer any questions.

.

All the best,

Claude (www.londonmusictuition.co.uk)
