Business overview
Scouts in Grenoside started in 1911, 3 years after the first camp on Brownsea Island. Grenoside Scout group is the oldest active group in Sheffield, more than 100 years later!
The Scouting Association was founded by Robert Baden Powell of Gilwell (1857 – 1941) who realised young people had potential that was often left untapped. In 1907 he arranged an experimental camp on Brownsea Island to investigate his ideas. He brought together 20 boys from working class homes and public schools and put them into camp under his military based leadership. This experimental camp was a roaring success and it was the pure foundation of our very own successful Scouting movement we know today.
Scouts in Grenoside started around 1910, just 3 years after that first camp on Brownsea Island with our first Scout Master being Mr George Foster. 14th Sheffield Scout group is the oldest group in Sheffield and is still active now, more than 100 years later!
