Definitely needs a shave
Aussie blokes are macho, beer-guzzling, crocodile-wrestling tough guys, right? Wrong. Perth grooms are reported to be hitting the beauty parlours with gusto for some pre-wedding pampering.
They’ve been spoiling themselves with all manner of treatments including manicures, facials, massages, ‘eyebrow tidying’ and ‘mini Brazilians.’ A few brave souls are even opting for a ‘back, sack and crack wax’ in time for the wedding night. Of course, they don’t want to feel emasculated and so the treatments are given manly names like a ‘hand-detail’ (manicure) and a ‘stress relief facial’. It’s enough to make Crocodile Dundee hang up his hat and retire to the suburbs.
Before you jump to conclusions and start blaming the Sheilas, it’s not always the bride that persuades the blokes to explore the world of men’s grooming. Nathan Ahern, manager of Perth based male grooming venue, Guys Grooming, says that best men have also been known to book the stag party in for some pampering. “We have had 20 guys from one wedding come in. They get the courage from their mates. These guys were from country Queensland. They went through a couple of cartons while they were here.” The mind boggles.
Don’t be too quick to snigger at their vanity, though. A survey for Superdrug has found that on an average day, British blokes devote a whopping 83 minutes to personal grooming, including cleansing, toning and moisturising, shaving, styling hair and choosing clothes. If that’s just a regular day, then we’ll hazard a guess that pre-wedding preening means more than wafting an iron in the direction of the wedding suit and having a quick shower and shave.
Planning on hitting the beauty salons pre-wedding? Maybe you think they’re strictly for the ladies? Share your thoughts on the forum.
