The Association of British Insurers plays a crucial role within the British economy, acting as a unified voice for the UK insurance industry. We represent almost 400 of the UK’s biggest insurance companies, who together provide over 90% of the UK’s insurance services. We provide leadership to the insurance industry on a wide range of issues and keeps a keen eye on activity within the UK financial sector and the Government.

The industry’s customers are, of course, of great importance to our members and us, so the ABI helps to guide consumers through the wide range of products offered by insurers, from home, motor and protection insurance to pensions, savings and retirement income. Businesses are customers too, so we provide help and information on the different types of insurance that are crucial to ensuring the success of enterprises small and large.

The ABI aims to help consumers better understand what kinds of policies exist and what they can expect from each. Our brand new, easy to use web site has a breakdown of the insurance policies available as well as information on how to ensure people choose policies that suit their individual needs and circumstances.

For example, the ABI, in conjunction with the Financial Services Authority, recently launched an online Pension Calculator to help people make decisions about saving for the future so that they are financially comfortable in retirement. And to help people work out how much cover they need on their home buildings insurance, we’ve created a House Rebuilding Costs Calculator.
