Q4. Yell Mobile is running slow on my mobile device. Why?

There are several things that can affect how fast Yell Mobile app works on your mobile device, including: how powerful the device is, whether it's on a 3G or a GPRS network or WiFi, and what type of memory you have saved Yell Mobile app to.

Yell Mobile app will work faster on WiFi or 3G networks than GPRS networks and the more powerful the device is, the faster it will work.

However, some devices give you the choice of installing Yell Mobile to phone memory or mass memory/memory card.

For best performance, make sure you install Yell Mobile app to phone memory. (If you have already installed Yell Mobile to your device, you may have to re-install it to find out which type of memory it is in.)

A large number of devices are known to support Yell Mobile app. The primary requirement is that the device has data or mobile internet enabled. Alternatively, if your mobile device does not support the full version of Yell Mobile app, you can use the Yell Mobile Web, which can be accessed using your mobile's browser at the address www.yell.com. This service operates on all internet-enabled mobile devices.

Q8. What happens if my device is not in the compatible phones list?

If yours isn't one of those listed, it's still possible that Yell Mobile app will work on your device. We are continually adding more devices to the list of those that support the service so please check the list of supported devices from time to time to see if yours has been added to it.

We also operate a Yell Mobile Web. To use this, visit www.yell.com using your phone's browser. This service operates on all internet-enabled mobile devices.

Q9. What is the difference between the app and web versions?

Both services provide access to all the Yell.com listings information.

The main difference is that the app offers many more features than the web one, including elements like "Auto-suggest", "Auto-locate", "Save result to contacts". Also the experience is much better as the app is developed for a specific phone considers its capabilities. We recommend that if your mobile supports the app then you use it.

Q10. Why won't Yell Mobile app install on my device?

If your device supports Yell Mobile app but it will still not install, you'll need to check your mobile device's internet settings. The settings information can usually be obtained directly from your mobile service provider's website or by contacting their customer services team.

Q11. Why do I keep getting error messages when using Yell Mobile app?

All error messages will contain details about the error. It's most likely that errors are caused by poor network reception, so it's always worth trying to use the service again at a later point.

Q12. I've got a Blackberry device and Yell Mobile app always find results for London, how can I change it?

The location accuracy is based on the GPS signal strength and it works best when the device is in clear view to the sky as far as the auto-detection, if the application does not get a location fix, it defaults to London.

Also this might help on your Blackberry goto Options > Advanced Options > GPS > Menu Key > Refresh GPS.

The location can be entered manually as well.

Q13. I didn't allow Yell Mobile app on my iPhone to have access to my location initially, how can I allow it now?

If you are using the iPhone iOS4 then please do the following.

May be you selected "Don't Allow" when the app prompted you to use your "current location" initially.

We recommend that you please do the following:

  • Navigate on your iPhone to Settings > General > Location Services
  • Turn ON location service for Yell.com

Restart the Yell.com application

  • Double click the Home button
  • Scroll horizontally to find the Yell.com app from the bottom of the screen
  • Touch and hold the Yell.com app icon until it starts to wiggle/shake
  • Tap on the RED "-" at the top to close the application
  • Single click the Home button
  • Tap on the Yell.com application (it will restart)

Q14. How do I switch between Maps and Augmented reality view on the iPhone?

Enable Augmented Reality view - Map page > Options. Turn Reality View ON.

Disable Augmented Reality view - Hold the phone flat whilst on Map page and select Options. Turn Reality View OFF.

When the Reality View is on, switch from the Reality View to Maps by holding the phone flat (point to ground).

Q15. How much does Yell Mobile app cost to use?

Nothing. Yell Mobile app is available free of charge subject to any network provider charges that you may incur. If Yell subsequently decides to charge for its use, a schedule will appear on this website or in the "About" area of Yell Mobile app itself.

The service on your device will be active as long as the device can make calls. Once you have cancelled the device, the service will not operate.

Q19. I have a device in the list. Why won't Yell Mobile app work?

Yell Mobile app has been developed to operate on the most stable (or latest) versions of the mobile devices in the list. Occasionally problems are experienced with the early releases of some mobile devices. To overcome these problems manufacturers often upgrade the "firmware" on the mobile device. If the problem persists, we recommend you contact your mobile device dealer and ask them to check that you have the latest version of the firmware on your mobile device.

Q20. Will Yell Mobile app work when I am abroad?

Yes, you can still access the service. Remember that you will be using international roaming. There can be specific local problems that are outside of our control. You can't search for international numbers using Yell Mobile app.

Q21. How do I remove the Yell Mobile app from my device?

Yell Mobile can easily be removed by simply deleting it from the "Applications" area on your device. Details of how to do this should be in your mobile device's manual.

Yell Mobile app has been developed to operate on any mobile device, irrespective of the mobile service provider. However, we cannot guarantee that it will operate on an international mobile device and provide no warranties in this regard. If you do experience issues, you will be able to use the Yell Mobile web.
