Yell's Community Guidelines

We're here to connect you to the businesses you need quickly and easily and our community contribute to this goal in some key ways.

To remain unbiased we, as a business, don't add any editorial or recommendations for any of the businesses on our listings. Instead, we ask our users to submit their own reviews, sharing their genuine experiences of the local businesses they use.
Business owners can respond to these reviews and also provide photographs and videos of the services they offer.

We ask our members, both business owners and reviewers to share our values and abide by a few rules -


User Conduct

Be aware of others
We want to hear from you, all of you, so help us to encourage new users to join conversations and if you disagree with them, do so politely. If your experience of a business is different to their review leave your own explaining how and why.

Be honest and helpful
If you've had a bad experience with a business try to explain to them why in your review - perhaps the business owner doesn't know about this problem and can resolve it for you. Negative feedback is fine, but constructive criticism is much more useful to the business and potential customers than an angry rant - no matter how therapeutic for the writer!

Double check before you hit submit
Remember that the content you submit becomes visible to anyone who visits the site*, so check what you're posting meets our Yell.com Conditions of Use and is something you're happy to be associated with.

Speak as you'd like to be spoken to
Abusive and offensive behaviour, towards businesses or other users, will not be tolerated.
Whether this is your first post or your fifty-first, your opinion is no more or less valuable than anyone else's.

If you see someone being abusive or otherwise offensive, don't get drawn into an argument; report it to our moderators through the report tool.

Respect people's privacy
We respect our users' privacy and do our utmost to protect it (see our Privacy Policy for more details).

We expect users to join us in protecting people's privacy and not post personal information, about yourself or anyone working at the businesses you review.
Mentioning the celebrity owner of a bar/restaurant is fine, but not detailing the names of, or contact details for, individual members of staff.
Personal information includes full names, email addresses, mailing addresses and phone numbers, as well as bank and card details.

Respect copyright
Anything you share with our community should be your own, unique work.
Please do not post content you do not own the copyright to. This includes photos, video clips, music as a video soundtrack and unattributed quotes.
Content will be removed if we receive a complaint from the copyright owner.

Show your appreciation
Not just of businesses but for your fellow users too!
If someone leaves a review or other content you find helpful, let them know by clicking the ‘like' or ‘Helpful' buttons.


If you're a business owner

Get involved!
Encourage your customers to leave reviews and thank them when they do.

Don't review your own or a competitor's business and don't use a review for promotional purposes.
This is a sure fire way of damaging your online reputation and we will remove any reviews we identify as being faked or otherwise inappropriate.

Keep an eye on your online reputation.
Check your reviews regularly and respond when you need to. That way you can build trust with your customers and the wider online community.

Don't panic if you get negative feedback.
Try to learn from it and if possible, contact the reviewer through our service to see if you can fix the problem. Everyone gets the occasional complaint; it's how we deal with them that defines us.

How to report abusive or inappropriate content/behaviour

You can flag abusive or indecent content for removal by a moderator using the 'Report this' link which appears within each review box and on users' profiles.

All UGC material posted on the website, must comply with both the guidance here and the wider the Yell.com Conditions of Use.
We reserve the right to remove any content, and/or associated user(s) which breach these rules.
All complaints are handled on a case-by-case at Yell's discretion.
