An unbiased view of ourselves and where we are in life now helps us move towards where we want to be in the future

Glyn<br /> WilliamsWho is the ….. of them all?

As we go through life, we see things differently at various stages. The lively exuberance of a child changes to a more pensive, careful approach of an adult. The older the person, the more time they usually spend looking at and pondering about something; the strategic action they then take is based on thought more than feeling, whereas the spontaneous, sometimes irrational, action of a younger person may be based on feeling more than thought.

The nature of our decision making is often influenced by our experiences and where we currently are in life. In business, they recommend that we have a current business plan – a five year plan, a twenty year plan and so forth. Often in life we may get embroiled in the present and forget to look forward into the future at what we are working towards. Without a future plan we can often just skate about directionless, going round and round, back and forth, often hoping that something will happen.

Our decisions in the present are influenced by our goals for the future, thus setting our direction into the future. When we look in the mirror we can see what there is, or what we think there is. By looking at what is and knowing what we want, we have two things going on:

1) An accurate feedback system of how things are;
2) An honest, clear perception of what we want for the future.

Then you know clearly where you are and where you want to be. It is then much easier to decide what specific strategic action you are going to take to carry you where you want to be.

So … mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most strategic planner of them all?
