This winter is going to be wetter than 2008.

This winter is going to be wetter than 2008.

Yell.com This summer certainly hasn’t had the barbecue weather that we were all expecting, instead it has been a bit of a wash out.

But there has been one benefit to the rain over the last few months – it has prevented my garden from drying out.

As many reports are indicating that summer is over for us Brits, I decided to look for advice on how to protect my garden from the winter weather.

I was particularly concerned about getting waterlogged soil and my plants drowning so I turned to the BBC for some useful advice.

Garden maintenance is key to avoiding a waterlogged look and some of the tips included using a motorised spiker to spike lawns.

Another idea was to add lime-free sand to grass to improve drainage.

The BBC also recommended trying a new garden design, using trees and shrubs which thrive in wet conditions.

Winter this year will be wetter than 2008, according to the Met Office’s latest predictions.
