Restaurants - IndianWhat can an Indian restaurant offer me?
A good Indian restaurant will offer:
- A menu with a wide range of Indian food such as poppadums, a range of starters and accompaniments such as onion bhajis, samosas, naan bread and vegetarian curries, and different types of main course curries from kormas to jalfrezis—as well as a selection of desserts;
- A home delivery service or takeaway service;
- Efficient and friendly restaurant service;
- Advice on any menu items you are not familiar with, and on which are hot curries and which are mild curries;
- A wine list with a good range of quality wines and Indian beers;
- A friendly atmosphere;
- Indian meals cooked in a clean kitchen by a qualified chef.
- Good Indian restaurants and curry houses will be busy, particularly at weekends, so phone to book in advance.
- Ask friends who live in the area to recommend a good Indian restaurant.
- Check local newspapers and food magazines for reviews of local Indian restaurants and curry houses.
- Many Indian restaurants offer special lunches or Sunday curry buffet lunches, which can be well-priced.

- If possible, book in person—by going in to the Indian restaurant you can see what the food looks like, what the atmosphere is like, and whether the staff are friendly.
- If you enjoy an Indian meal, take a leaflet or card home from the restaurant or curry house for easy booking next time.
- If you want an Indian takeaway, it's best to order by telephone, as this can save having to wait for your Indian meal in the restaurant.
- Check if there is a home delivery service, and if so, what radius this covers.
- If you move to a new area, try takeaway meals and a range of curries from different Indian restaurants before booking in for an expensive sit-down meal.
