Things the Post Office can do for you

There's more to the post office than posting letters and renewing your car insurance. Here's a rundown of what else the post office can do for you...

Foreign currency
If you're off on your holidays, the post office can offer you a range of foreign currencies as well as Travellers Cheques, all offered at 0 per cent commission, except for Sterling Travellers Cheques. The post office also offers home delivery for a fee.

Travel insurance
Planning your holidays? Post offices sell travel insurance, from annual policies to single-trip cover and policies for winter sports.

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)
If you're a UK resident, you can also apply for an EHIC from the Post Office. If you fall ill or have an accident visiting any country in the European Economic Area (EEA), this card entitles you to free or reduced-cost, state-provided medical treatment. Fill in the form at the post office.

Hold my post
If you're worried about the post piling up whilst you're away, ask your post office about Keepsafe. For a small fee the post office can hold your mail for up to two months, and deliver it on your return.

Identity Checking Service
The post office can provide an Identity Checking Service for anyone who needs to have photocopies of identity documents certified as being a true likeness of the original.

For a small fee, the post office will check up to a maximum of three original documents against the photocopies and certify each photocopy as a true likeness of the original document.

Gift vouchers
At your post office you can buy gift vouchers for stores like Comet, Mothercare, Habitat, Debenhams, Miss Selfridge and River Island, as well as experience vouchers for places like Legoland. So if you've forgotten someone's birthday, you can pop along to your post office to post the card and buy the present at the same time!

Premium Bonds
Don't forget the Post Office is the place to buy Premium Bonds for the chance to win a £1 million prize each month. You can buy other National Savings products at the Post Office counter, including Children's Bonus Bonds, Income Bonds and various National Savings Certificates. Good luck!
