Newsagents
Newsagents offer a range of services and products which may include:
- Newspapers, magazines and weeklies;
- Cigarettes, cigars and tobacco;
- Sweets, confectionery and chocolate;
- Food and household basics—milk, eggs, bread, washing-up liquid etc.;
- A newspaper and magazine delivery service in the local area;
- Information on forthcoming local community events and items for sale, usually displayed on a door or window;
- Postage stamps—some newsagents will also include a post office;
- Some newsagents also sell wines, beer and spirits.
- Keep a list of opening times for your local newsagent in your home—some newsagents close for lunch or close early on quieter days of the week.
- Try to use local newsagents instead of supermarkets where possible—they rely on local customers to enable to stay open.
- If there's a post office within the newsagent, they may operate different opening hours from the main shop.
- If you want to use a newspaper delivery service, ask the newsagent about costs, when and how you will make payment, and whether you can cancel if you are going on holiday.
- If you are looking for a newspaper or magazine that's not in stock, many newsagents will order it for you.
