Estate agents
You may wish to consider the following advice when choosing between estate agents:
If you are looking to sell your property:- Choose an estate agent that sells or specialises in your type of property.
- Contact at least three estate agents before making your decision.
- Ask how long it has taken them to sell similar property in your area.
- Ask for the rate of commission the estate agent will charge.
- Ask what type of contracts they offer—sole, joint or multiple—and if there are any penalties in changing estate agents.
- Ask how and where they will advertise your property.
If you are looking to buy a property:
- Register yourself with as many estate agents in your local area as possible. Be specific about your desired location of property.
- Get a feel for house prices by scanning the newspapers and viewing prospective homes. Consider what you think is good value and remember to ask advice of estate agents if you are unsure about any aspect of buying a house.
Visit our Trade associations & professional bodies section for helpful information on verifying a supplier's membership status of one of these organisations, as well as the contact details of those organisations that appear more frequently within Yell.com.
