Trade associations & professional bodies

Advertisers on Yell.com may choose to display the name of any trade association or professional body to which they belong or an emblem or logo showing it.

Trade associations and professional bodies vary in practice. This means that membership is not necessarily a guarantee of quality service for the consumer. The purpose of this section is to help you make a more informed choice when selecting a supplier.

Helpful information

Remember to consider...
  • What criteria has to be met in order to gain membership?
  • Does the trade association or professional body make regular inspections of its members work?
  • Is the membership ever withdrawn if work is found to be below standard?
  • What happens if things go wrong? (Does the trade association or professional body have an independent complaint handling scheme and do they ever step in to ensure any unsatisfactory work is corrected?)
  • Do they have codes of conduct for their members?
  • Is there an industry ombudsman that you could contact in the event of a complaint not being dealt with to your satisfaction?
