When I first went to see Victoria I had a vision of what it was I wanted. I have been in and out of the dentist’s chair for over 13 years now and am very clued up on dental procedures. I knew that I needed to focus on the health of my teeth before the aesthetics and that was what I had planned to do. Victoria is very sure of herself and I’m sure she will advise you as she did me that she is one of a kind; that she thinks differently to other dentists and as a result of studying in America she is far more competent than any dentist you could possibly find. Unfortunately, this did not ring true. A year in to my treatment I complained of a pain in my nose; she took an x-ray and found an abscess that was so large and had caused such a substantial amount of damage to my jaw that she predicted it had been there for “at least two years”. In my opinion, this is something she should have picked up on in my consultation where she had taken several x-rays of my mouth. She advised that I have both my incisors root canaled in the hope that this would eradicate the source of infection. I paid well over £500 for this treatment alone, only to find after sitting in the chair through 2 hours’ worth of double root canal that she had not cleaned the root deep enough and had to remove all of the permanent material she had filled the tooth with and start again. Despite this, she did not compensate me for the inconvenience even though by that point I had spent well over £3,000 on various treatments with her. I then advised when I felt the root canal had failed (I’ve had over 9 root canals, it’s not hard to judge when one has failed) after 6 weeks of throbbing pain following the procedure that I was considering having the tooth removed and an implant put in its place with another dentist. She told me she was incredibly offended by this and told me on my next appointment that she had noticed I get quite ahead of myself which I found to be incredibly personal and rude. It was quite clear I was distraught at the thought of losing my front tooth at 24 years of age and I was desperately searching for a solution. Despite all of this, she still proposed I have a brace fitted at the cost of at least £7,000. This is something she had been pushing since I met her. She advised me that because I grinded my teeth if I didn’t have a brace I would inevitably lose all of my teeth and grind them until there was nothing left. I advised I would pay for a mouth guard as I simply did not want a brace. I paid £500 for a mouth guard which was completely impractical, did not fit and was unsuitable for my teeth. I took this to another dentist (NHS) for a second opinion; he advised me that the clasps around it would eventually rub at my teeth and cause an indent and that it did not fit correctly despite Victoria advising me again that I was incorrect and that it fit fine. I have now found an absolutely fantastic dentist who has created a treatment plan at a cost that is reasonable and he comes highly recommended. I have had to have my incisor removed no thanks to Victoria and am now undergoing bone augmentation and will eventually be fitted with an implant. By the end of my treatment with Victoria I had spent well over £3,500 with her. You might ask why I spent that much, please don’t be fooled in to thinking that £3,500 covered a lot, because it didn’t. This covered: three white fillings; two onlays; one crown; three root canals and one mouth guard. Whilst I don’t think it is fair to say Victoria is an incompetent dentist, she is certainly not a good dentist. I feel it is absolutely essential that a dentist does not insult your lack of understanding by only proposing one solution to a problem. There are more often than not several solutions and whilst there may only be one very good solution or the dentist has their own preferable solution, you should be making the decision as to which one it is you take.Report this
