Independent School for 2 years - 18 years. Day school and boarding school.
The Read School was founded in 1667 through the will of Charles Reade; it was formerly a voluntary controlled Grammar School for boys, which reverted to full independence in 1967, and became co-educational in 1992. It is today a fully independent, non-selective, day and boarding school for boys and girls, with around 260 pupils, catering for the needs of all children, whatever their strengths or abilities.
The school is located on two sites within the rural village of Drax, with convenient access to the motorway network and operating eight transport routes bringing local children in from the residential areas around Selby, Goole, Howden and Sherburn in Elmet, and up from Doncaster, Thorne and Askern.
The Senior School and Sixth Form (11-18), Pre-School, Pre-Prep and Prep Schools (2-11) and boys boarding accommodation are all located on the main school site, while the girls boarding accommodation is located at Adamson House in the village.
