Children welcome but not wanted!!!
25/05/2010 by ZEZZA
We decided to go to the the Rancliffe Arms today (Tue 12 noon) for my sisters birthday. We wanted a quick bite to eat for ourselves and our children. The website states 'children are welcome at all times at the Rancliffe Arms' well I dont think so. We sat at the far end of the pub away from the diners but within a very short space of time were asked 'to move to one side as they had a party of 25 arriving' In other words we dont want you here. The so called party arrived and sat down for 5 minutes before moving in to the restaurant then the pub was empty again why did we need to move to one side? I would like to add that we live very locally to this pub and know that the girl who asked us to move aside was infact the daughter/grandaughter of the owners and the above review on this site seems to be describing the same girl- always looks miserable is rude and generally does not like her job however probably cannot find a job elsewhere so just gets away with being the way she is as her family wont put her through a disiplinary procedure like other staff. Well we know a lot of people in Bunny, Ruddington, East Leake and the surrounding villages and wont be recommending this pub again.Report this

Nice venue, but appalling waitresses. When we arrived the tables were filthy and not been cleared. The place was dead except a couple of small families. It was about 2pm on a saturday afternoon. Then a trendy-looking girl, early 20's appeared. No warm smile or 'Hello can i help?'... she just stared at us before saying "yes??" "I'd like a table for 3 please, are you still doing lunch?" "I'll clear a table" - very rudely and then strutted off. After 10 mins she sat us down and handed us two A4 pieces of paper. One was wet and stained with coffee at the bottom. On it was no lunch items, just some bland wraps and sandwiches. "Excuse me, hi, sorry , but we're looking for the main menu as were wanting something a bit more than a wrap" we enquired. "that IS the menu...." she snapped. The another young lady, a bit shorter and a bit more pleasant said that there was actually another menu with dinner items on it, but that some of them had sold out or weren't available today. We were then handed two more A4 sheets of paper (one each) and then after comparing how stained and filthy they were, we trusted our instincts about the place - we stood up and left. Neither girl even bothered to ask us why we were going. Nonetheless we went a couple of miles up to Hoton and had a lovely warm welcome, backed up with a really tasty meal served by really friendly chatty waitresses. Note to the Rancliffe Arms owners: I'd be ashamed if friends or family came to my pub and were greeted like dirt before being made to stand about for ages whilst a table is cleared. Then handed a filthy single A4 sheet of paper with 'Sandwiches' on when it's Saturday afternoon lunchtime !! No wonder the place was dead. Perhaps they need to spend more on getting decent staff, rather than fancy ads in the evening post etc.Report this
