The One Restaurant in Town!

Being new to Croydon I wasn't sure were to go, after reading the comments I wasn't to sure, but I went with my partner as it was close, we were glad we did! the Royal Garden is in the middle of no where, we had not booked, on arrival the staff was friendly and welcoming as I hadn't booked, we were sat by the conservatory, which was okay. We had salt chilli squid to start. The squid was really fresh and tender, perfectly cooked and the traditional Chinese chicken curry is to die for, more than enough chicken and generous portions. The service was a little slow and we had to ask for drinks twice but it was 8 on a Saturday night, and guests were pouring in one after another, so it was extremely busy and the food was so good it didn't matter. I've been to a few excellent restaurants and this is one of them. Next time I go I will just make sure its a weekday.Report this
Poor Portion Size, Lack Of Taste, Poor Value For Money

When my family and I went here to celebrate my wife’s birthday we were greatly disappointed and decided we will not be returning. Once we arrived, we were seated quite quickly however it was next to a window with a large hole in the glass (which we are sure was there when we dined previously) and were shown no “warmth” from the service staff. We ordered a sizzling seafood mixed platter for two. This consisted of two small pieces of each item and a spoonful of sea weed in the middle. We have enjoyed this starter on previous occasions and therefore were very disappointed to find it had been reduced in size and was tasteless. The mains were also very disappointing as they were again all tasteless, we ordered a three meat sizzling dish, which contained prawns, beef and chicken, however this only consisted of one prawn, a couple of small pieces of beef and chicken and was placed on a platter of wet, soggy vegetables, the “Special” fried rice was meant to be for two people, although it came in a bowl only big enough for one, with small chunks of processed ham that looked like it had come straight out of a tin and a “sizzling fish” dish, together with vegetable rice which consisted of far too many onions and was placed on top of wet and soggy vegetables along with four very tiny mussels and a couple of pieces of rubbery squid. We were not offered any condiments with our meal. I am afraid to say our meal suffered from very poor portion size, lack of taste and poor value for money. The restaurant is priced higher than most however the food tasted like it could have come from Aldi. We could not remember the last time we visited a Chinese restaurant and had food that was so tasteless.Report this
