Lightning Motorcycle Training - we're in the business of making more safer motorcyclists
Lightning Motorcycle Training is based at Rivermead Leisure Centre and has been providing moped, scooter and motorcycle training for 12 years. We have had nearly 20,000 customers and we are recognised as the largest and most successful training school in Reading and the surrounding area.
We provide everything that anyone could need to get either on the road with L-plates or pass a full licence. Our prices included moped/motorcycle hire, fuel, insurance and equipment (helmet, motorcycle jacket, gloves and waterproofs).
We operate 7 days a week all year round and have full time qualified instructors. We have a fully interactive web site that allows on-line booking, course guide and prices.
Our training is first class and this is reflected in our pass rate. We do not compromise on safety and it is important to us that our students become safe motorcyclists.

Just completed my full training from zero to hero on the DAS course and I could not fault the training in any way. The instructors are helpful, informative, know what they are talking about and most of all very approachable. The school is very flexible to your skill level and if you are going faster, slower or at normal pace they do their utmost to make sure you are catered for. I failed my mod 1 first time round, this was a stupid mistake on my part rather than the training, but they rebooked a test for me and the costs were very reasonable, I think 30 quid including bike hire and instruction. I cannot recommend them highly enough. I used my own gear as if you are going to ride a bike then you should have at least a helmet, gloves and a jacket as a minimum! The schools gear seems to be ok. I never had any mechanical failures and as an mechanical engineer, my eye is confident that the bikes are well looked after for the sheer amount of abuse they get. You cannot go wrong here. Thank you!Report this
One to avoid!! my CBT experience!

Where to start! Two macho, unfriendly, and at times rude men, who made me feel as though I should be privilaged to be there, rather than them providing a service to me! 1. all their gloves, jackets and helmets absolutely stink, and I mean stink. Gloves all thown into one box to help yourself, too much trouble to pair them up I suppose! , jackets couldnt see the sizes. The smell was so bad it made me gag/heave. I had two showers when I got home and I could still smell the sweaty/mouldy gear on me, like the customer doesnt matter/isnt important. clean your gear - your customers deserve better!! 1a. the bikes are crap, very poorly maintained one had an indicator hanging off and the stands have welded bits on them, making it really hard to learn how to stand them up. (but I think they liked this - so you looked stupid) 2. no pleases or thank you - like they hate their jobs and get kicks out off making the paying customer feel small - very bizzarre (ex forces??) 3. They know their technical details, but they are absolutely crap at training. They should get people in who know how people learn and how to get the most out of them. Felt like they had forgotton what its like to learn something new. impatience leaked out and feedback was only one way. 4. riding started at 9.30, if you dont cut it in the car park, then your day's training will finish at 1pm (as mine did!), there was no offer of additional help. so the event time of 8.45 - 5pm is totally misleading! Will not be returning and will ensure I let as many people know how crap my experieince was (oh and I cried when I got home because I was so upset about the day)Report this

I could not fault the training given at Lightning. My week spent with Lee and John was most enjoyable and I was surprised by how much I learnt. A top rate bunch of guys who are both helpful and friendly. A special thanks to Lee for getting me through the week and passing my motorcycle test. I already have and will recommend Lightning to others in the future.Report this
