Forburys is our favourite place in Reading by Far, The dinner we had Saturday was right on the money, The Lobster and the turbot from the daily specials was bursting with flavours, and the wine suggested, a Gruner Veltliner was extremely pleasant, Here the Service is excellent, and better than all those Eateries in the oracle still charging service than does not exist, We had a fantastic evening, and i will recommend Forburys to all my friends from Farnham and Newbury. The cafe Gourmand to finish was a nice touch and mouth watering. Thank you for a nice evening.Report this

had dinner on a sturday night, the menu and the daily special were mouthwatering, different and better than those cheap eateries in the Oracle, here the food is full of flavour, and the Lobster and the turbot for our main course was as good as any top London restaurant, in fact we thought the service was even better than Claridges, The wine list is the best in the Reading area, which is the reason we chose Forburys, Thank you for a splendid DinnerReport this

Had Dinner on Saturday night, Enjoying Pimms on the terrace, The venue is very comfortable and relaxing, away from the noise from the Oracle, We had the lobster and the Turbot, it was stunning, the wine we were suggested at £43,00 a bottle was exquisite, and bought another 2 bottles to take home, it was a real enjoyment, Well deserved Forburys...Report this
Bad groupon deal
11/05/2011 by robber1024
I went here with my wife on a Groupon offer for a 3 course meal and glass of wine. I don't expect to be underfed on a 3 course meal. If the food was anything special then I might be able to understand the tiny servings but this was really quite ordinary in what is promoted as fine dining. Mostly the staff were fine except for one French waiter who was rather aloof. I like the location and decor.Report this

This restaurant is must visit if you are into your food and want somewhere classy to et in Reading. Great for lunch or dinner this restaurant boasts and extensive menu of delicious dishes. It is expensive but you can see why. I have only been lucky enough to dine there twice and have been really impressed with the quality of food and the service.Report this

Went for a lunch time meal - couldn't fault the service and the menu choice was very good with a varied selection. It all arrived within good time and tasted fantastic. Was very impressed with the puddings although very full at the end. I'm looking forward to my next trip!Report this
A really lovely meal!
27/10/2010 by The_Irishman
I went here in October 2010 with five other people and we had a really great meal. I had the scallops as a starter on a slate which was superb, followed by steak which was delicious with some great hand cut chips served in a little basket, washed down with some great wine, and we finished off with some lovely coffee and miniature deserts. The service was absolutely spot on and timely and our glasses were always filled up. Highly recommended.Report this
the best in reading

I took my some friend for a treat and what an amazing surprise to find a restaurant of that amazing standing and value in a city full of "eateries". scallops where obviously fresh and nicely presented on a very stilysh slate, the foie gras was also amazing (i am french, i know what i am talking about!) The turbot was filleted at the table and the beurre blanc sauce was the best I tasted since i am in UK Wine list was also very consistant and very well priced whatever you want to spend £20 or £150you will find a very good bottle to fit into your budget. the service was very efficient, discret and knowledgeable, the place is clean and very enjoyable. i will definetely go back there i had a wonderfull time!!!!Report this
Disappointing Fine Dining in Reading
17/08/2010 by DIYSmurf
The service and wine list were excellent. The food however was disappointing considering how much we paid. When you have spent £23 on a steak you expect something special. Also the presentation was quite strange. I ordered the Scallops as a starter and they came on a warm slate tile that looked like something you'd lay on your kitchen floor.Report this

I had high expectations of this restaurant prior to visiting and came away slightly disappointed. I visited on a midweek lunchtime and found it somewhat lacking in atmosphere, with a slightly ‘sterile’ feel. The staff, whilst being efficient and professional, lacked a little something. The food, however, could not be faulted. I thoroughly enjoyed my three course meal and would definitely return to see if my overall opinion could be changed. The menu changes daily, so don’t bank on the menu which is on their website being available on the day that you visit. The menu is pricey but, in my opinion, worth it.Report this
Excellent French restaurant
20/11/2007 by mrsevans101
This is a lovely formal style restaurant in one of the prettiest areas of Reading, looking into Forbury Square and then out onto Forbury Gardens. The dining room is well laid out, with penty of space between tables, crisp white linen and plenty of flowers and room dividers to give a more initimate setting. The market menu is well worth a try if you want to sample Forbury's whilst keeping the price down. The food on the menu is simple and perhaps a little limited, but the portions are large and the quality of the dishes is excellent. The a la carte menu is where things really start to get interesting. Dishes are small and interesting and the choices are quite wide. The food is stylishly presented on an array of different plates with foams, purees and neatly placed ingredients. The food is of the quality where you will insist that your dining companions try out your dishes as they are so delicious. The wine list is very extensive and can seem a little intimidating, but the sommelier is incredibly knowledgeable and happy to talk through any of the wines you may be interested in, or to suggest something to go with your food. Service is perfect. Perhaps this will upset the Brits, but no one does service like the French. It is at once discreet and friendly, leaving you to your conversation unless the wine needs pouring or plates clearing. This is a really special place for a romantic meal or special celebration, but it can make an affordable Sunday lunch or quick evening meal if ordering off the market menu.Report this
Best French Restaurant in Reading
20/01/2007 by walid
Forburys Restaurant is a new French restaurant situated in the central square of a modern development opposite Forbury Garden in the centre of Reading. The restaurant has been created by Xavier Le-Bellego and he has done a wonderful job. Forbury offers traditional French food that is very well presented and simply delicious. I had ordered a fillet of Angus beef that was perfectly cooked and served with a gratin dauphinoisthat simply melted in your mouth. Along the meal we had a bottle of Santenay “Les Champs Claude” Jean Marc Pillot that was simply divine. The staff at Forbury give excellent knowledgeable advice and very attentive without being in your face. Some of the best staff I've seen in a long while. An average starter price at a la carte ranges from £7 - £10, the main dishes from £15 - £28 and deserts from £6 - £10. At that price you get great food, great staff, and an elegant atmosphere. Forbury truly deserves its 5 star ratingReport this
