Like most people I was a bit unsure what to expect when I made my first appointment for hypnotherapy, having seen various ‘professionals’ on the television. When I met Emma I quickly realised that the TV hypnotists are just showbiz, a world away from the profession of hypnotherapy. I never actually lost consciousness, which surprised me, I was aware of what was happening the whole time. As Emma explained, hypnosis is something we all experience every day without realising it; that feeling of daydreaming, or being really absorbed in a book. It’s just being really relaxed and comfortable. It’s so easy and relaxed I wasn’t sure whether it would have any effect, but it definitely did. I began to feel an improvement after the first session, even my family noticed a difference in my mood. There is no dwelling on painful memories, or bad habits, it’s all quite fast moving, and the focus is on ‘moving on,’ replacing bad feelings with good ones. Hypnotherapy may be different to anything you’ve experienced before, but if you approach it with an open mind, and go along with it, you’ll feel the benefit. I admit I had a tiny fear of coming out doing strange things like I’ve seen on television, but there’s none of that at all. You can’t be taken anywhere you don’t want to go. Having said that, I should say that hypnosis is a only part of the session – the rest of the time is about discussion, and explanation about the process. Emma uses a variety of techniques, none of them scary, just relaxed and natural, the emphasis always on the positive. Emma is very professional, not at all judgemental, and she’s approachable. She’s there to help, and it’s all done in a pleasant, relaxed way. I’ve had a few sessions now, and really enjoyed them. I feel it’s opened up a whole new world for me, because it’s removed barriers that have been there for many, many years.Report this
