Restuarant & bar review

I've been here quite a few times for something to eat, a handful of times at lunchtime and several times for an evening meal. The location is ideal, set in the town centre of Stornoway, when your sitting in the restaurant there is a beautiful sea view. The first floor location also means that you’re high enough that you are not watching the cars go past. The food quality is something that I can't complain about, anything that I have ordered has been of a good standard; from steaks or fish at evening meals to burgers or sandwiches at lunchtime, one thing that I will commend An Lanntair for is the quality. The area is nice and kept very clean, there is disabled access for push chairs and people with limited mobility in the form of the lift. The toilets are amongst the nicest I have seen in my outings, well kept and extremely pleasant on the nose. So why give this such a low rating after such a good start? On the minor side, the decor in the restaurant doesn't help for a relaxing time; the wallpaper is simply made up of old movie posters pasted to the wall, I personally don't like it at all. But the main points are the bar: on the face of it the selection looks good, however too often the beers are off or 'unavailable' this is frustrating to somebody that doesn't drink lager or wine. Despite the presence of a cask ale tap, I have seen this working only once in all of my visits. But by far and away the worst part of the restaurant is the service, I've had bad service before but this takes the biscuit. The very last time I was out for dinner here my steak arrived 50 minutes after ordering it (nobody had starters, that was the length of time between ordering and serving), I then had to ask for my vegetables (which took another 20 mins) and again for my chips (another 15 mins) so after a 50 minute wait my steak was then sitting on the plate for a further 25 minutes and by now very cold. This may be excusable as a one off, but this is regular here, even ordering a sandwich at lunchtime and you’re still faced with a 35 minute wait. The record so far, for me, has been after 1 hour and no sandwiches we all had to return to work without anything. This needs to be addressed, the place has all the potential to be great: nice location, good food, reasonably priced. However the service is truly shocking and that, in this line of work, is unforgiveableReport this
