I've been using Base Coat Serum on Rachel Stevens this week

Tara SmithI came back from Marbella on Friday and went straight to a shoot with the gorgeous Rachel Stevens for the front cover of the January issue of FHM.   This was the first time I worked with her – what a great person and a fabulous head of hair!

Rachel has medium/long hair; it’s quite fine but there is a lot of it.  She had extensions put in and a colourist there on the day matching the extensions.  If you want to make your hair fuller or thicker Great Lengths do really fabulous ones: www.greatlengthshair.co.uk.

I worked with her hair from dry and applied some of my Base Coat Serum through the ends, then blow-dried her roots on a cool heat to give volume.  I curled the hair in sections, starting at the nape of her neck and working round, using a 3-inch curling iron.  Then I used a really soft Shu Uemura paddle brush, creating soft but voluptuous seductive bed hair.   I set the style with Frederic Fekkai hairspray – this is a lovely soft mist so the style maintains natural movement.

Throughout the shoot I maintained the volume in her hair by massaging her head, gently rotating my fingers on her scalp.   I also had my Top Coat Glosser close at hand to keep the hair looking glossy and to bring out the gorgeous tones of colour.  She left the shoot with my Straight Away shampoo – this is not just for straight hair, it also puts shine back into the hair – and my Feed the Root shampoo and conditioner. Use the conditioner weekly as a deep conditioning treatment to maximize gloss.

I was working with Kevin Spacey on Monday shooting a commercial for Olympus Cameras, and I went to see the play he is in at the Old Vic – Inherit The Wind.  Kevin is hardly recognisable in the play as he ages about 30 years and wears a white-haired wig.   Incredible play, 100% worth going to see. For the Olympus shoot I was up at 5am on Monday to style and groom Kevin.  His hair is very short so I used my Rock On Hard Hold Gel to give his hair texture, this also kept it nicely in place.

Now I’m off to Abu Dhabi for the Formula 1 Grand Prix; check in with me next week for all the gossip!
