    We have eaten here several times and the food has always been of such a high standard and sooo delicious. The service is great and if you are lucky enough to get the large windows table, the views over the harbour are lovely.

    Recently visited the Tolbooth with friends to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We live locally and had high expectations based on our own past experience and reputation built up by previous owners - however - shocked to see how much this place has changed under current owner. Atmosphere was unpleasant from the outset with no welcome from staff. Food mediocre and poorly presented. Service appalling - left waiting for ages for dessert menus - glasses all empty and no offer of service - honestly couldn't believe the owners retort when brought to his attention he rebuked the suggestion that we may have been waiting overlong - countered this with ridiculous suggestion that had only been 7 minutes - where did he get that from?! Got the impression that he is quite experienced in putting people down - however so arrogant and confrontational that we settled the bill and left never to return. In all our years of dining both in the UK and abroad have NEVER been made to feel so uncomfortable in a restaurant. Visit at your peril. Will advise all friends and associates to avoid this place.

  3. Avoid this eaterie, rude manager poor quality food

    Used to eat here frequently. This place has changed hands and has fallen down the slippery slope that will lead to eventual ruin. The food is not at its best despite premium prices and certainly not up to the standards the Tolbooth was famous for previously. The manager was not pleasant indeed very arrogant and dismissed my protest at the charge of £11 for a main course small salad that barely covered the plate and not enough to feed a snale. This salad must have cost them all of 20 pence! Excuse was given by arrogant manager ''we've got to make our money!'' Please don't go to this restaurant, you will be disappointed and feel like you have been screwed for your hard earned cash and given peanuts in return. Better off at other places just up the road, at least the staff are friendly, food is a fair price and very good.
