best carvery we've found anywhere
07/08/2012 by Oldies
I am not a lover of carveries as a rule but my friend love's 'em. However, even I cannot fault the Golden Goose. I find the food excellenl. Now it has also been refurbished to a very high standard which makes eating there a pleasure. I would challenge anyone to find a better meal at a completive price anywhere in the Worcester area. I am disabled and the staff manage to be considerate and helpful and never condescending. Thank you all.

terrible

I need to mention , that I have eaten here several times ,and found the food to be good., but never the service .they have a travellers camp about a hundred yrds away and keep reserved signs on all the tables , this is presumably so they can VET and refuse customers they deem unsavory .This last visit the meat carver ( who was young and incapable ) brought out a new turkey , as he cut into it ,red juice ran out all over the Yorkshire puddings .We all noticed and said "it's not cooked ", he proceeded to carve , what was soft pink meat onto a plate , we had to insist he take it off the counter as it was clearly a health risk and not adequately cooked ...Had we let our children walk off with that dinner , there would be more than a bad review to answer to .!Having recently moved to the area , I have eaten there several times , each time taking a friend , or relative with me .. I will no longer be doing that .My friends this time were visiting from Ireland , the manager said all tables are reserved but we can sit you in the bar, which had ripped seats and dirty tables .Not wanting to create a situation , we sat and ate dinner , Disgraceful , judgemental ignorant staff ,made us feel like riff raff , We will not visit again

local and modern

from the welcoming exterior to the modern yet traditional interior, this pub has a very nice feel about it. Having a lovely restaurant which is friendly to all including families and as a traditional pub should have there is also a separate bar for the adults with large pool table, darts and t.v.The restaurant menu itself is dominantly (as so many pubs are) carvery, offering the traditional choices of three meats and fresh vegetables. The meats themselves were cooked to perfection and the vegetables had a very appetising bite to them. The young lady serving was very friendly and wasnt afraid of engaging in conversation to make me feel really welcome. Besides the carvery there is also a rage of steaks and other dishes which from what I have been told are not to be missed. After enjoying my meal and feeling very full I decided to sit out in the beer garden with a very good pint. The beer garden at the reart is perfect on a summers evening as it overlooks huge vast fields known as the arrow valley park (900 acres of green land). There is a childrens play area to keep them nippers occupied whilst you can enjoy your drink and relax and unwind. Its like being in a different world. For those who also enjoy a cigarette when they are out, at the front of the pub by the bar entrance is a smokers hut, kept away from the restaurant entrance so those can enjoy their food without the smell. It was here that I got into conversation with some of the local regulars who were very friendly especially as they were all in their twenties. They were telling me about the food on offer in the bar and when the best time to come for the offers. Like between 12 and 3 Monday to Friday you can get a carvery bap for £1 when you buy a drink. They also said that they enjoy the fish and chips in paper for £3. If I wasn't so full I would have definitely gone for that. I asked why they enjoyed coming here and was repeatedly told that it was quiet and there was never any trouble so they could enjoy themselves fully.I also found out that quite regularly the golden goose plays host to either a tribute act most recently UB40 and a yearly event known as the factor where people come along and sing there songs to stand the chance of winning the weekly competion.I would say that The Golden Goose has everything you would need to have a lovely meal, quiet drink and wonderful experience. With very good prices and quality food it is certain to say that I will find myself back here again and next time to experience what else is on offer. Overall a fantastic time.
