  1. Good traditional pub with a warm feel

    26/08/2011 by

This very traditionally furnished English pub warmed my heart when we first walked in with it's broad selection of traditional ales and token local alcohlic at the bar perstering the barmaids. The carpets even retain a faint (unoffensive) stale cigarette smell which must date back some years now. The atmosphere would suggest that this place served up some really good home cooked food but sadly the burger I had was well below par and the lasagne my collegue had was best describe as 'your typical frozen'. I do hear that the gammon, pineapple and chips can hold it's own though so if I ever return this is what I will be ordering. Service was very friendly and the food did come quickly despite it being a busy Friday lunch time. The big car park out the back made access easy and there is a conservatory and terrace for the few nice days we get here. In short, bar the food this is an excellent joint and would be the perfect place to go for a couple of ales after work, especially considering you are right on the border of Adnams terratory here.

The Bricklayers is a friendly pub with a car park to the rear. They have tables in the bar areas as well as a conservatory and they are popular at lunchtimes. They serve a variety of sandwiches and typical pub food such as burgers and chilli. The menu is rather uninspiring, but what you would expect from a pub menu really. They have two veggie options, which don't really seem to change but they are both on the good side for pub food. Prices are reasonable. Staff are friendly although some of them could do with a little more training in pulling a pint and making a shandy!
