Sawasdee Ka. A warm welcome to Tamnag Thai. Established since 1988, we are a family run business that offers a high standard of home cooked fine dining to all customers.

Tamnag Thai restaurant serves traditional Thai cuisine. There is also a bar in the restaurant where it is possible to have a drink while waiting to be seated.

    The four of us went here last week for the first time. We turned up on spec and got one of the last few tables left - the place had a great vibe. The menu was extensive and everything we had was really good. Really enjoyed it will definitely come again.

    Tamnag Thai has always had a reputation as the best restaurant in the Crystal Palace triangle (and there are currently over 30!). this is probably because all dishes are freshly cooked to order The food as always was excellent, the decor and ambiance was wonderful and includes many authentic Thai statues, paintings and items such as hand painted silk umbrellars. Also, there's a very good lunch menu with good value meals. Despite having such a great reputation for its authentic, fresh and tasty food, Tamnag has suffered in the past with complaints about delays in serving food particularly at weekends. Firstly, Tamnag Thai must be one of the busiest restauarants in SE19 and secondly all dishes are freshly cooked to order, so if what you are looking for is fast food you are best to give this place a miss.I cannot recommend Tamnag Thai enough

    All restaurants have their off days, but this 40 something Londoner (who spent close to a decade in Asia) has not had consistently better Thai food anywhere in the capital. The prices are reasonable, and the portions are double that in central London. Of course you are not getting Thai prices or portions..but the presentation and freshness are great. The Massuman curry is spot on.True there are more authentic ie scrappy Thai places out towards East London run by avuncular Thai matrons, but they are for hipsters, are despite their cheaper prices, a rip-off and this place is better. T

    This has got to be the WORST thai restaurant I have ever been to! The staff were rude, unfriendly and ignored us most of the time... until I brought to their attention that I had been served RAW chicken!!!! Then iI was asked if I would like complimentary food!!! I think not ... I had truly lost my appetite at that point! Avoid this place at all costs ... Mae Ping Thai in Beckenham is a much safer option!

    After going to South East just up the road, I was excited about trying Thai at this restaurant and I was bitterly disappointed.Whilst the decor is lovely, the food is not. It was salty, flavourless and overpriced and the whole time I felt I was being rushed.Staff were rude and abrupt and were not helpful and I definitely won't be returning.If you want decent Thai, give this a miss and go to South East instead.

    Probably one of the best Thai restaurants, i've had the pleasure of dinning at, very busy but well worth the wait as the food did not dissapoint. If i had to compair it to the famous Blue elephant then i would say the food is miles better and much better value if you dont mind not having the water falls or the karp pound that is. All in all a great night out!!!

    In my opinion the Tamnag Thai serves some of the best Thai food in London (and possibly the UK) - It is on par with my other favourite Thai restaurants The Blue Elephant and the The Crazy Bear.We tend to go to the Tamnag Thai for all our important events such as Birthdays, Anniversaries and even Valentines Day - And before you ask the Tamnag does not rip you off on this day with elevated prices (well not too much).The food as I said is excellent. We tend to start off with the house special, the Tamnag Thai Platter - an assortment of starters, followed by Pud Thai noodles, Chicken in Red Curry, Jasmine Rice and either a Prawn or a Beef dish.The service is a bit hit or miss, so we tend to go in for the early evening sitting to avoid the rush and ensure we have the place mostly to ourselves.Great Food, Great Food, Great Food. What more can you want from a restaurant.

  2. A hidden gem

    I went to Tamnag Thai last night and ate one of the best Thai meals I have ever had. It can even rival the best Thai restaurants in Thailand. The food was served quickly and presented beautifully (many dishes are decorated with carved vegetables). The staff were very attentive. Six of us shared a platter of mixed starters and giant grilled king prawns, both of which were delicious. For the main course I had the Chilli Crispy Duck with noodles and lemon grass with rice. WOW! It was delicious and perfectly cooked! I can't think of a bad word to say about it. It was a perfect evening! I couldn't believe how busy it was, even on a monday night. It was one of our friends birthdays so I went to the bar and spoke to Sam (one of the waiters) and he organised a surprise desert for us. It was very touching and it really completed an already perfect evening. Just before we left, the waitress presented a hand painted silk parasol as a birthday present to our friend. We had a wonderful night and will definitely come back.Thank you Tamnag Thai!

    I love Thai food and thought I would introduce it to my partner as there is a wide selection of food. I should say rather too much of a selection with no speciality dishes! Well not special to the restaurant...The table was sticky and rickety, we were in a small corner of a conservatory (or add on)and the staff had to squeeze past tables to get through. We choose a selection of mains and a rice and noodle dish.We were suprised at the price of the noodles and rice and believed for the price we would get a good size portion... nope it was a tiny bowl!They provided us with warm towels at the end like it was special....The staff were good (except for the lack of cleaning), polite and all said goodbye (which was nice). Sadly the food was nothing special....and for the amount we paid we expect good food...

    Food is ok veering on very nice on a good night.Service is very hit and miss - some days they actually look away as you give them your order in complete disinterest, others they can be charming.Delivery time of food is mostly fine.Last time we eat there last Saturday however, they tried the old "let's not bring the change back and wait for them to get bored and leave" trick. Given that they slap on a service charge and the change amounted to £10, we felt this was tantamount to petty theft. To add insult to injury, after demanding quite loudly that our change arrive sharpish as we wanted to leave, it then took them another 15mns to come back, demand our bill copy in a huffy manner, then another 10mns to return once again to ask US how much the change was as they didn't know. We were honest but wish we hadn't been.

  2. Lovely thai food in Crystal Palace

    Tamnag Thai has a reputation as the best Thai restaurant in the triangle (and there are many!). The food is excellent, the decor includes as much gold as you could ever hope for, and there's a very good lunch menu with cheap deals. Despite having such a good reputation for its fresh and tasty food, Tamnag has suffered in the past with complaints about the grumpy waiting staff. Either I'm so used to it that I just don't notice anymore, or the staff have bucked up their ideas, because I haven't had any reason to grumble for a long time.

  3. Thai food, Thai style, scary staircase...

    Tamnag Thai is one of a selection of Asian restaurants in the Crystal Palace triangle but its reputation with the locals is that it's the best by far. It gets so busy now on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights that it's necessary to book, or wait in line and munch on the free prawn crackers.A special offer is available at lunchtime with a glass of wine, starter and main for less than a tenner. The food is always extremely well presented and authentic in flavour and appearance, and it's a great place for Thai fans or those looking for an introduction to the cuisine.Oh, yes, the spiral staircase always gives me a case of the eeby-jeebys when I go there but I'm a strange person with a stairphobia so it may not be that bad for normal people!
