In need of refurbishment
17/09/2008 by Nikiolola
Located next to the Gala Casino at the North end of Teesside Park, this 14 screen cinema has seen better days I feel. It just looks a bit shabby when compared to the newer cinemas in the area. There are always long queues for tickets and food, and the seats in the screens look and feel old. The screens seats are also on a slope, rather than being on a set of steps. As a result your view of the screen can often be impeded by the person in front. On the positive side, the cinema does serve a decent variety of food. As well as the usual hot dogs and nachos, they sell burgers and chips. The chicken burger I had was pretty good although it did take a while to come, partly because I went at a quiet time of day. It is also in a good location in terms of restaurants and shopping. Also, the google map image for the cinema is the wrong location, although the address is correct.

A great evening out

Showcase Cinema currently have a club for children . The 'Nickelodean Film Club'. You get your own Club card, a goody bag, 20% of tickets for some films and on the child's birthday they get a free ticket to a show of their choice. Plus in the summer holidays, the cinema runs a 'Wednesday Bookworm club' and any child who writes a review for any book gets to see a film for free and best of all, the accompanying adult doesn't pay either. There is food available at the food counter including hotdogs and crisps plus popcorn and a seating area for those wanting to chat over coffee whilst they wait.

Ok; Not too bad

This is well located within Teesside Retail Park with nearby shops, restaurants, nightclub and bowling alley which combined can make it an excellent night out.The shows go on till midnight so you can make it a long night. It is very spacious and has a number of screenings. It has excellent parking facilities. It has an excellent choice of refreshments however the prices are extorniate. Also some films that I have been to view have had problems with sound and the film itselp which has been a big distraction to the audience however no staff have apologised. The presence of staff with in the films screening areas is practically non existent. Overall I would recommend it but it could be improved as the place has been opened for a number of years and the cinema rooms themselves could do with updated i.e chairs been fixed.

Showcase

Based on the Leisure side of Teesside Retail Park, the Showcase Cinema has 14 screens, which is currently the largest amount in NE area. Normally get just about every major release. Added bonus is they do late night screenings upto 12.30 am sometimesA spacious lobby house two ticket desks at either side + the concassions stand in the middle. Whilst large it does get busy during blockbuster season.Seating is not stadium, but very comfortable seats with plent of leg room. Has Digital Projection in one screen which is also capable of Digital 3D.Tuesday is bargain day where tickets are same price all day (check site for current price)Nearby is Bowling, Burger King, Pizza Hut, Bar/Grill + Bingo Hall. So plenty to make an evening of itSigining up to the website also gets you occasional free/discounted invites to advance screenings of fortcoming releases.

good selection

Easy to find with free parking right outside the door. Has pizza hut, burger king and a few other restaurants nearby as well as Hollywood bowl. There are numerous screens, showing all the latest films throughout the day and night and different times. Admission prices are quite steep but it is cheaper before 6pm and they do do the Orange Wednesday promotion of buy on e get one free. The place is quite big also so although there is always lots of people, it doesn't feel overly crowded. Cons confectionary is dear and it's not easy to know which side your film is being shown on. Queuing times can be quite long so get there in plenty of time before the film starts.
